We specifically request NO Street Clothes, especially jeans and crop tops. Because the instructors need to be able to see body lines for placement, we request no baggy gym wear. HMD’s Dress Code is designed to give students the freedom to dress comfortably while ensuring their physicality can be seen and their rage of motion is unobstructed. Dancers will explore contemporary dance practices, and processes through combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation. Classes include focus on vernacular jazz dance as well as classical jazz techniques and improvisation.Ĭontemporary/ Modern: Students will engage with the defining movement concepts of modern dance including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Jazz: Students will learn the defining movement concepts of jazz dance including isolations of the body, grounded musicality, improving performance quality and developing a capacity for complex rhythms and movement patterns. As students progress through each level, the vocabulary is expanded and will become increasingly more complex and challenging. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of methods. ![]() Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. Intermediate Level classes are suggested for students who have at least three to five years of training.īallet: Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Open Level - These classes are suggested for students who have at least two to three years of dance training and are a mixture of levels, Beginning through Intermediate. This class is also where steps and combinations of steps from the variations class will be broken down and worked on. The vocabulary is expanded and the class works at a faster pace. Classes move at a slow pace enabling students to gain knowledge and strength in execution of the dance steps.īeginning/Intermediate Level - Teachers assume students attending this class have the terminology however may still be working on the execution of the steps. Classes continue to work on terminology and technical execution. This class is also for the student that has had dance as a child or wants a refresher class on the terminology and technique of a specific style of dance.īeginning Level - These classes are suggested for students who have attended the intro levels classes, or who have taken dance classes within the past five years. Introductory Level - The first step in classes for those students who have never had a dance experience of any kind before. ![]()
